Resilient Cuyama
Transformative Climate Communities (TCC)
In 2024, Blue Sky Center (with Quail Springs, Community Environmental Council, and the Sustainability Division of the County of Santa Barbara) was awarded a $1.1M Transformative Climate Communities (TCC) grant by the CA Strategic Growth Council.
Blue Sky’s role is focused in four areas:
Producing a quarterly community newsletter keeping the Cuyama community informed of the project’s progress.
Adding 40 new Jardines Victoria (Victory Gardens) to increase food security and healthy food access in Cuyama backyards, including a series of 8 workshops to build gardening skills and to prepare and preserve healthy food.
Leading community outreach to provide home energy improvements on 20 local homes (more on this history here and here).
Researching opportunities for a cold storage facility and solar micro-grid in the community.
