Our current work is analyzing the results of the home energy audits performed on 22 Cuyama homes. On May 19, 2024, at the Cuyama Buckhorn, we hosted an information session about the next steps, including identifying willing licensed contractors to perform home improvements with some of the costs covered by the County of Santa Barbara and State of California. We are currently continuing to work with interested residents and to identify contractors willing to perform the work. Upcoming grants may be able to support the costs that exceed any existing rebates or discounts provided by state energy incentive programs.

The Cuyama Valley Home Energy Survey was completed in the fall of 2023, with 76 responses (representing 21% of Cuyama households) collected from October through December 2023.

Home energy upgrades are often a challenge for Cuyama Valley households. Older homes often require structural upgrades before work can begin, asbestos mitigation can increase costs, and many contractors are reluctant to work in our remote location.
Blue Sky Center is working with the County of Santa Barbara Sustainability Division to identify what types of home upgrades Cuyama Valley residents hope to make to their homes and the barriers to making those upgrades.
We’re interested in learning about what would make your home safer, more comfortable, or more energy efficient. This information will support accessing funding to support Cuyamans to make home upgrades in the future.
We will collect surveys until the end of 2023. Results will be available at the Cuyama Post Office and on the Blue Sky website beginning February 2024. No names or personally identifiable information will be shared with the survey results; the information will be compiled anonymously.
By completing this survey, you are not committing to any program or service, and the information you provide is not submitted to any program as an application.
OPPORTUNITY FOR HOMEOWNERS: We are currently looking to identify 20 Cuyama Valley homeowners that wish to receive a free comprehensive home energy audit. If you are interested in receiving an audit to identify energy upgrade projects on your home (with estimates of costs and financial impacts on your energy bills), please indicate so on the survey and we will follow up with more information.
This survey has been sent to all Cuyama post office box holders. Please complete only one survey per household. The survey should take approximately 15 minutes to complete. We ask that you complete and return the physical survey to either:

The survey is also available online in English and Spanish. In the physical surveys mailed to all Cuyama addresses, we have included $2 as a token of appreciation for the respondent’s time and response.

Encuesta de Energía Doméstica del Valle de Cuyama
