BLUESKYpeepSHOW

peepSHOW was a temporary art installation. It no longer exists. This page documents the project as it stood in 2023.
“a kaleidoscope of perspectives”
peepSHOW provides shelter and creates a constant evolution of perspective within a series of still frames, while the rest of the world continues to move around it creating a kaleidoscope of unexpected views of the spectacular landscapes surrounding the site. peepSHOW hopes to communicate that whether you're trying to see something or not, you will walk away with a new way of looking at things. Each visitor will have their own experience with whom or what they see when walking through, and in some cases, a group or two people will see the same thing at once and can share that moment in time, each person's experience inside or outside is perfectly unique and cannot be recreated.
Visiting the Sculpture
peepSHOW was a temporary art installation. It no longer exists. This page documents the project as it stood in 2023.
Project Summary
peepSHOW is a viewing station that focuses the gaze and thoughts of visitors onto obscure or unexpected scenes. By creating moments for the user to contemplate their surroundings, peepSHOW spurs discussion and creates shared experiences.
BLUESKYpeepSHOW was designed and built by David Baker Architects, donated to Blue Sky Center. The sculpture was built on site by the architects in May 2023.
Physical Description
peepSHOW is an inhabitable, interactive sculpture that takes the form of a 10x20-foot undulating mirrored tunnel. Custom fabricated from stainless steel, the object is effectively mirrored inside and out, reflecting exterior and interior views. Strategically placed angled panels present unexpected reflections, while strategic portals frame vistas, altering viewers' relationships to the environment and themselves.
Interactivity
The sculpture provides shelter and a stopping place offering framed views that focus attention on the spectacular landscapes surrounding the site. The public can walk around and through the sculpture as well as touch it. Each visitor will have their own experience with whom or what they see when walking through, and in some cases, a group or two people will see the same thing at once and can share that moment in time, each person's experience inside or outside is perfectly unique and cannot be recreated.
Philosophy of Piece
peepSHOW creates a constant evolution of perspective within a series of still frames, while the rest of the world continues to move around it creating a kaleidoscope of unexpected views and perspectives to share with others. peepSHOW hopes to communicate that whether you're trying to see something or not, you will walk away with a new way of looking at things. Each observer can accept what they are seeing through each opening, move around to see a new reality in a different opening, or watch other people experience their own reality. peepSHOW started as an urban experiment and was installed during the first annual MSPF in San Francisco in 2015. It proved itself to be an object of intrigue and beauty, a catalyst for cooperation and conversation, a place to pause and ponder, and a cultural cross-section-izer. As a result it was selected for a prototype incubator program with the goal of further developing the concept for semi-permanent installation.
