Paso a Paso

a rural, creative, community gathering space in New Cuyama, California

Paso a Paso means step by step, and it was a creative community gathering space created by Blue Sky Center in the townsite of New Cuyama, that was active for a duration of six months (April through August 2024). By all metrics, this pilot project was a success in community engagement and activating space. Paso a Paso held 21 events, over 300 visitors, 12 Community Creators, and four visiting artists. In the hearts of those Cuyamans who participated, it was a supportive place to meet, to dream, to learn about each other, and try something new.

“I think space is something that’s just so important for people. Space is something that I constantly feel like people are fighting for or don’t have. It’s really clear, after my workshop, people want to see this place or this idea continue.”
